The Truth About Tweezers

I love the relationships I get to build with my clients.  Trust is everything.  After all, they are trusting me to use a laser on their skin. And even more than that, they are trusting that their treatment will get them results and relief from what’s bothering them.  I love being a laser technician and owning a business that is built on trust.

There is a certain desperation that we feel when there are things that we can’t control- especially when they undermine how we feel about ourselves.  As a result, we are willing to try anything.
When hair is the issue, there are all sorts of things that you can do to deal with it.  Some are complete crap. They are tools and equipment that are designed and promoted to empty our wallets and prey on our desperate need to find a cheaper or easier way to solve a problem. However, there are legitimate ways that you can use to control or destroy hair.
And there is nothing wrong with trying them out.
Sure I think laser hair removal is the best.  But if you’re just not there yet, you can try different methods and see what might work for you.  However, before you start peeling off your clothes, here are some rules you should follow.

RULES FOR HAIR REMOVAL

  1. GET A PROFESSIONAL TO DO IT IF YOU CAN
  2. BE KIND TO YOUR SKIN- your skin will tell you what you need to know—listen to it.  If a method that has always worked in the past starts giving you trouble, it is time for a change. Make the change sooner than later to avoid making a mess of your skin.
  3. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS- seems simple, but if a product doesn’t work if you follow the directions, you are only asking for trouble to use it without them.
  4. STAY AWAY FROM GIMMICKS- deep down you know when it’s a gimmick, get professional advice if you are unsure
  5. USE GOOD QUALITY PRODUCTS- it will make a difference in your results- whether its tweezers, wax or the laser that is used.
  6. DO SOME RESEARCH – Get professional advice- real life or online. Stay away from forums where people can write anything without any credentials, or sites with their own agendas. Stick to medical journals to get the facts- not just opinions.

For a good start on your research check out this site- Physicians Desk Research at http://www.pdrhealth.com/diseases/excessive-hairiness. It has solid information about hair issues, causes and solutions. Here’s a quote from their site to set your mind at ease if you are afraid of making your hair issue worse-

Contrary to popular belief, temporary hair removal methods such as shaving, waxing, tweezing, and depilatory creams do not cause hair to grow back coarser and darker than the original hair. Permanent hair-removal methods include electrolysis (use of a small shock to destroy the hair follicle), intense pulsed light (use of a flashlamp to destroy the hair follicle), and laser phototherapy (lasers are targeted at hair follicles).”
The truth about tweezers? They don’t make it worse.
